The World Health Organisation says early data indicates the Omicron Covid variant may more easily re-infect people who have already had the virus or been vaccinated than previous variants.
It, however, said the new strain could also cause milder disease.
World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus disclosed this during an interview.
